The Wait was Worth it !!

Mike has been asking for a day grayling fishing for ages, but every time he called or we arranged a day the rain came down and up came the river, but today started crisp and fresh with bright sunshine a lovely day to be out and about but how would the fishing go, if went fantastically.

Mike wanted to learn nymphing techniques, but had only ever fished with one fly, so I had to alter that and get him going with a team of three, which he thought would lead to all sorts of tangles, after explaining what to do and a few practise casts we were away after around 10 cast we did have a bit of a mess but soon sorted out and we moved down to the better looking water to start fishing properly, Mike fished around 10 metres of the run and lost count of the fish he had caught which is a nice problem to have, the one problem that wasn’t quite so nice was he was freezing watching the rod tip it looked like he was trying to induce a take, but looking down the rod his hands were shaking like a leaf so time to get out and have a warm.

All warmed up and back to it, first cast another fish and another, it was quite amazing how many fish came to the net, even a couple of out of season browns, by around 3pm Mike had enough of the water sucking all the heat out of him and called it a day, but what a day he had.
